Brian Linard holds a Ph.D. in nuclear physics from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
After graduating, he worked for a number of years in advanced semiconductor materials and
device physics research, where, among other things, he honed his computing skills in such
areas as scientific data analysis and experimental systems control.
He ultimately completed the transition to the computing side of his career, becoming an
information systems consultant, developing group-ware & collaborative systems applications
for the corporate environment in both Australia and the US.
Most recently, since 2001, he has come full circle back into academia, teaching computer
science as a lecturer at the University of California, Riverside, where he has the pleasure
of grooming a whole new generation for the discipline that has fascinated him all his life.
