Preface

Thanks to the excellence of our faculty, the College of Engineering is one of the best engineering programs in the country. Our ability to continue this tradition of excellence depends on continuous improvement in everything we do. Therefore, I have initiated a program to bring a systematic, engineering approach to continuous improvement in the College. I believe this will be particularly beneficial in improving and expanding our teaching methods.

ABET now requires every engineering program seeking accreditation to demonstrate and document their continuous improvement efforts. For us, the message behind continuous improvement is simple: ``We're good...and we can be better!''

Ben Streetman, Dean of Engineering, University of Texas

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UC, Riverside has embarked on a re-engineering of its instructional-delivery processes to incorporate continuous-improvement features and to incorporate the state-of-the-art instructional methodologies and technologies.1 This document outlines the plans for and progress on that re-engineering effort. Obviously, this document is and will long remain a work in progress.

We focus on the mechanics and logistics of curriculum delivery and on the assessment of their effectiveness. Obviously, that effectiveness depends on excellence in teaching, for which many on-line materials can be found at:
