Objective: an expected accomplishment of graduates during the
first few years after graduation.
The following is the initial objective of the UCR's BS in CS: To
produce graduates who demonstrate the ability effectively to:
- participate effectively in the development (design,
implementation and deployment), maintenance, and administration
of hardware/software components of systems involving computers.
- acquire new knowledge and skills based on their knowledge of and
insights into computational principles and methodology.
- acquire information necessary to perform their job and to stay
abreast of their field.
- enter into careers in computer science and engineering in the
areas of software development, software maintenance,
hardware/software quality assurance (e.g., testing), digital
design, systems and network administration, information
administration.
- pursue graduate education and research in computer science and
engineering at major research universities.
- apply mathematics, engineering sciences, computer and
computational technology and natural sciences to the
professional practice of computer science and engineering.
- synthesize principles and techniques from engineering,
mathematics, engineering planning and project management and the
natural and social sciences to develop and evaluate alternative
design solutions to engineering problems with specific
constraints.
- exercise professional responsibility with regard to societal
concerns (e.g., ethical, environmental, economic, regulatory,
and global issues).
- work and communicate well in a team environment.
