The models

The Open Knowledge Initiative (OKI) has defined 14 Java APIs that cover the various components of Learning Management Systems (LMSs).^2.23 Each API defines a few classes, which specify the purpose and names of the attributes of the objects of each class. Only three of the 14 APIs are significant to us:

• CourseManagement (9 pages)
• Grading (7 pages)
• Assessment (12 pages)

Those 28 pages define OKI's model of a course. The other 11 APIs deal with computer stuff (e.g. file-system models) and/or operational matters (e.g. scheduling).
