Lab 1 : Setup and Introduction
1. Log in to CS lab machines.
- Go to the cs web page
- under "Department Intranet" on the bottom left, click "Request an Account"
- enter your information, and you should be able to retrieve your account information.
2. Make sure you have card access to the lab.
3. Launch Matlab. Play around in the Matlab environment, using it as a glorified calculator.
4. Set up Matlab on your personal computer if you plan to use it there. You can download it from ENGR's download page
following the instructions there.
Note that it is version R2013a whereas the lab version is R2013b, but I don't expect this to be an issue.
Note: you can also use Matlab on the lab machines remotely, by ssh tunneling through bell.cs.ucr.edu to sierra-[1-47].cs.ucr.edu. E.g.,

5. Set up access to zyante book:
- Go to ucrcs30spr14.zyante.com and click Subscribe.
- On new form, enter name, UCR email, and password.
- Enter in UCRCS30Spring2015 as the coupon code and then click Apply to receive your free subscription. (Note the coupon will be reflected upon checkout.)
- Click Subscribe at the bottom of the form to finish the subscription process
6. Familiarize yourself with the activities and challenges in the interactive book by reading this.
7. Do the exercises in Try 1.5.1 - Try 1.5.4 in the book. It will prompt you to register for Cody online (you'll need to provide an email).
